The UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE), also known as the Indian Engineering Services (IES), is one of India's most prestigious competitive exams conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission. It recruits Class–I officers for top engineering posts in Central Government departments. Engineers selected through ESE hold highly respected roles in sectors involving national development, public infrastructure, defence, power, manufacturing, and public works.

The ESE exam consists of three stages—Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test. Candidates from four core branches—Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering—can apply. The competition is intense with lakhs of engineers applying every year for around 600–800 vacancies.

Engineering graduates looking for a prestigious, stable, and impactful career in the Government of India consider ESE as the finest opportunity. Officers recruited through ESE enjoy excellent career progression, powerful administrative roles, and the chance to contribute to national projects.
